Hello All.
First time post and long time lurker.
Did a 4th gear pull the other day. 3000 to 6200. When I got to 6200 I lifted off the throttle and put it in "D". While it was coasting down it shifted into 1st or second gear on its own at about 90 mph. It slid the tires some before I was able to get it into nuetral. When it did this I noticed that the dash and gauge cluster went out and flashed a couple times before it came back on. I was also logging with HP Tuners and when it down shifted and the speed sensor had spikes off the scale high and off the scale low. Like it lost its speed reference. I suppose this could have been the gauge cluster shutting down. I dont know. It was like I was turning the key off and on.
Now when taking off from a stop it revs like its in nuetral and then takes off, shifts through a couple of gears then downshifts by itself to 1st gear from 3rd and 4th. Again when it does this the gauge cluster shuts off and on like your turning the key off and on.
I'm prepared to replace transmission as this is a typical V with modifications making 780 rwhp. Thinking i probably just blew up the tranny. Part of it with the horse power I figured. However the intermitent power to the gauge cluster made me want to investigate this further before I drop the cash on a new tranny.
I'm wondering if this could be a PCM/TCM communication problem?? I'm an old school mechanic for 35 years but not up to speed on the newer electronic stuff.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
