To start with, I'm completely new to tuning these transmissions. I haven't even looked at the engine side of things, yet. The reason I am focusing on the trans side of things is because I have a friend who has had a lot of work done on his car, the tune itself seems to be pretty good, but the trans side of things needs a lot of work. It's a Holden Commodore SSV with an LSA/6L90E transplant. Made 660rwhp and is now in the shop again to have interchiller installed. I have experience in other tuning platforms, so figured this could be something beneficial for me to learn how to do and help my buddy out.
I also own a Commodore SSV, the same as a G8, I believe, which is stock. I am trying to put together a trans tune for him and test it in my car. I realise I will never be able to test the upper limits of the tune, but as far as the cruise and medium load side of things goes, I think it should work.
Last night I got to a point where I felt I had it nailed. The shifts at low to medium part throttle were tight and clean, as well as WOT. The temperature was on the cooler side. Then today when I got in the car, it seemed to be good just after start up, then after a few miles the shifts went from being a tight bump to what felt like a release, drop power (TM?), then engage. That's the best way I can describe it in words, but what's actually going on in the box may be very different. Today was considerably warmer.
I've read about binding, but don't actually know how to identify it or what it feels like and am wondering if that is what I am experiencing here? I'll attach a log and if you have a look at 14:06:39, this is a perfect example of where I've experienced these shifts. I noticed the TCC Slip becomes very irregular at these shifts, compared to the previous night's shifts or when I'm using TUTD and they remain smooth.
