Newbie Tuner - G8 tune with stock 6L80E requesting review

NEW!!!

I will make one calibration change for an additional $100 per change. For example, changing a shift point for a given gear is $100 vs changing a shift point and a pressure setting would be $200. That value can be used towards the full custom tuning price.

Newbie Tuner - G8 tune with stock 6L80E requesting review

Hi all,

As the subject states, I'm new to the tuning world. That said, I did pony up and get HPT Pro purchased and have been learning some of the ropes over the past couple of months. I've had a chance to look at some of the various tuning files out there for the 6L80E and would like to share my approach to how I got things to work for me. My current tune is attached for anyone interested in reviewing, mods for my G8 GT are as follows:

Custom Grind Cam from Comp Cams: 218/230 0.606/0.605 115+3 (LSL lobe intake, LXL lobe exhaust - designed for stock stall on a 6L80E transmission basically)

LS6 Oil Pump (stock L76 oil pump was high volume which was no longer needed, also had a casting flaw so out it went)

PRC 0.650 Dual Valve Springs (in retrospect this was too much spring, beehives would have been fine)

7.400 Pushrods

Cometic 0.040 Head Gaskets (makes for about 0.4 bump in static compression)

AC Delco 41-110 Spark Plugs (Iridium)

Taylor Thundervolt 8.2mm Plug Wires

DOD Delete (The L76 engine comes from the factory w/ DOD so we ripped that out)

N-Motion LS2 Adjustable Timing Chain Set

LS7 Lifters all around (DOD delete per above)

LS3 hollow stem intake valves (Factory heads for my L76 were 0821 L92/LS3 castings, no work done on the heads to date)

Comp Cams Rocker Trunion Upgrade

AFE Pro Dry S intake (none of the usual oiled filter worries)

GRRRR8 Forum IAT relocation kit (this was needed and made a big difference in the timing that could be commanded)

90mm MAF housing w/ velocity stack and LS3 card MAF (removed the stock size screen & wire MAF, which was a restriction)

Vararam Power Wedge for LS3 intake manifold (believe it or not this was good for +4 lb-ft from 2500 to 5000 rpm)

VMAX CNC Spiral Ported Throttle Body

Rick Crawford Racing LS3 Intake Manifold (center support posts removed etc.)

Kooks 1-7/8" long tube headers and 3" catted x-pipe

Transmission Fluid & Filter and Differential Fluid changed at ~51k miles

Battery changed at ~55k miles

Mobil-1 5w30 used consistently

All that said, the transmission is completely stock short of being tuned. I've basically been tweaking what my original tuner put together and am looking for some feedback & pointers on the transmission approach. I will say that with the way things are now, shifts feel good and work really well when hammering through the twisties on back roads. I also don't feel any flare to speak of that most people experience with things like the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts... basically, I just like to put the gear selector in 'D' then go to it so the tune reflects that approach. Any comments / pointers / critiques are welcome.
